Placer County has seen great strides in its fight to reduce homelessness, as the county announced a 5% decrease in those experiencing homelessness since 2023 according to their annual Point-in-Time survey. The tremendous work of local entities such as the Homeless Resource Council of the Sierras (HRCS), City of Roseville Housing Division, Roseville Police Social Services Unit, and Placer County has led to the successful placement of 538 individuals into stable, permanent housing. Volunteers, nonprofits, and city and county staff conducted the complex survey on January 25th to February 3rd.Now, valuable data about Roseville, the city at the center of HRCS efforts in South Placer, is available on the City’s website for free access.

Placer County Celebrates 5% Decrease in Homelessness
Placer County is proud to report a 5% decrease in the number of people experiencing homelessness in 2023, compared to the previous year. This decrease was revealed by the Homeless Resource Council of the Sierras (HRCS) in their annual Point-in-Time survey, which surveyed a minimum of 709 individuals experiencing homelessness in Placer County. The success of this survey was due to the 150 volunteers, nonprofit, and city and county staff who participated in conducting it from January 25th to February 3rd 2023.
This decrease marks an important milestone in the fight against homelessness and further information for individual jurisdictions will soon be available on the City’s website, once approved by HUD.

Homelessness Reduction and Coordination Strategy (HRCS)
The City of Roseville Housing Division, in collaboration with the Roseville Police Social Services Unit, Placer County and neighbouring cities, have successfully led the Homelessness Reduction and Coordination Strategy (HRCS) efforts in South Placer. Through their efforts, the team has provided a comprehensive point-in-time count that includes both sheltered and unsheltered homeless population estimates. This important data will provide real-time updates on what is happening in Roseville, which can be accessed for free.
The HRCS team is proud to announce that their work has resulted in permanently housing 538 individuals, including 138 veterans, 40 of the most vulnerable, and 360 experiencing chronic homelessness.

With even greater ambition and dedication to this specialized cause, the estimated 5% decrease in those experiencing homelessness could signify even brighter days ahead for those living in South Placer and nearby areas.
