From the Chesterfield couches to the velvety wallpaper and sparkling chandeliers, ‘Mikey & Madeline’s Candy Shoppe‘ in downtown Roseville offers a unique experience. Quoting Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, the shop promises “Surprises around every corner, but nothing dangerous.” Behind an iron door lies a hidden restaurant and lounge, with owner Michael McDermott aiming to provide the ultimate experience for visitors.
Michael McDermott has been a chef for over three decades and moved to the Roseville area from Boston where he was raised in a large Italian family. In 2011, Michael opened The Place in Roseville and has since expanded to another location in Placerville. His commitment to providing a special experience is evident in the building he chose for his downtown candy shop. More than 100 years old, the building features real trap doors and a basement leading to the street on the other side. Michael’s vision for the space was a speakeasy, and with Chesterfield couches, velvety wallpaper, and sparkling chandeliers, he has achieved just that. Guests will find “surprises around every corner, but nothing dangerous” as they explore. The candy shop offers a wide variety of treats, including homemade fudge, truffles, and old-fashioned candy. Michael sources high-quality ingredients and uses traditional techniques to create his confections. The shop also offers classes and events for those interested in learning more about the art of candy making.
Of the space, Michael proudly stated “This place is a room I could die in. It’s dripping with sexy in here.” Daniello’s will be opening soon to serve up craft cocktails, steakhouse favorites, and an impressive selection of bourbon, including Weller, Blanton’s, Pappy Van Winkle, Buffalo Trace, OFC, E.H Taylor, Angel’s Envy, and Eagle Rare Scotch Whisky.
The six-course tasting menu is sold out through March but the downstairs lounge with drinks and small bites doesn’t require reservations. This is a place to come and savor award-winning beverages that have been carefully crafted to perfection – truly works of art! One of the drinks, Leather and Bootstraps, is infused with leather scotch and served with smoke drifting up through the bullets. Daniello’s is proud to open Wednesday and Thursday from 4-11 p.m. and Friday to Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight.
For those looking for an enjoyable night out with friends or a romantic evening, Mikey & Madeline’s Candy Shoppe in Roseville will provide a unique experience that offers surprises and an incredible atmosphere. Michael McDermott’s commitment to providing the ultimate restaurant and lounge experience is evident in the Chesterfield couches, velvety wallpaper, and sparkling chandeliers that showcase more than one hundred years of history brought to life. Daniello’s new addition to the establishment will also give guests the chance to sample something exquisite from their craft cocktails, whiskey collection, or steakhouse favorites for any occasion.
