At Placer County Fair, Roseville locals enjoy summertime festivities, undeniably affirming the positives results of such attention to detailing related to leisure services across town. The guiding ambitions behind this ambitious bid will be determined by a panel of five prominent park and recreation professionals and the victor is probably set to get announced by October during the 2023 session of NRPA Annual Conference.

Roseville Parks, Recreation & Libraries is proud to announce that they have been selected as a finalist for the prestigious National Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management. This is an important achievement, especially since Roseville was chosen from a highly competitive population class of 150,001-400,000. Since its founding in 1965, the National Gold Medal Awards program has honored communities in the United States that demonstrate excellence in parks and recreation – through long-range planning, resource management, volunteerism, environmental stewardship, program development, professional development, and agency recognition. National Gold Medal Award Recipient in 1972 and Finalist for 75,001-150,000 Category in 2022
The City of Roseville is proud to have been named a finalist for the 75,001-150,000 category in 2022 and humbled to be a recipient of the National Gold Medal Award in 1972. City Manager Dominick Casey said that it was an honor to be a finalist last year and the challenge of competing against hundreds of agencies across the nation is even more special given their population increase. Parks, Recreation & Libraries Director Jill Geller expressed her enthusiasm to bring the Gold Medal Award back to Roseville, citing it as a perfect way to show gratitude to their residents, recognize the City Council and City Manager’s Office leadership, and celebrate the hard work and exceptional accomplishments of their staff.
Finalists must create a 5 minute video showcasing their agencies, judged on their ability to address the needs of those they serve by a panel of five park and recreation professionals. Judges are chosen for their considerable experience and knowledge in parks and recreation both locally and nationally. The winners of this year’s competition will be announced at the 2023 National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Annual Conference in October, and the City of Roseville is proud to have the opportunity to compete.
Roseville Parks and Recreation Manages an Impressive 15% of the City
The City of Roseville Parks, Recreation & Libraries is proud to be one of three Class II Finalists for the prestigious Gold Medal Awards presented by the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration (AAPRA) in partnership with NRPA. With 81 developed parks, 300 acres of street landscaping, two recreation centers, three libraries, three pools, two golf courses, a Native American museum and 19 Adventure Club sites for before/after school childcare, plus nearly 4,000 acres of open space/preserves, Roseville Parks and Recreation manages an impressive 15% of the entire City.
2023 Gold Medal Finalists Announced
Roseville Today is proud to announce the 2023 Gold Medal finalists: Missouri State Parks, Jefferson City, MO; Ohio State Parks and Watercraft, Columbus, OH; Texas State Parks, Austin, TX; Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails, Cheyenne, WY. These outstanding organizations will compete for the prestigious Grand Plaque Award, with the six recipients announced at the 2023 NRPA Annual Conference in Dallas, TX. Roseville Today has been locally owned and community supported for over 20 years, independent of print, politics, and major media outlets. Here’s to the brighter side!
