Fireworks Safety

It is important to be aware of local ordinances when planning a Fourth of July celebration at home, as fireworks are illegal in certain areas due to the risk of serious injury and property loss from wildfires. The Office of the State Fire Marshal reports that an average of 18,000 fires are started every year by improper use of fireworks, both “safe and sane” ones and illegal ones. To ensure a safe and enjoyable Fourth of July, they recommend only using fireworks outdoors and away from dry gas or other flammable materials, and to have a bucket of water and a hose nearby for any accidents.

Additionally, only fireworks bearing the “Safe and Sane” logo from the California State Fire Marshal are legal in the state, so be sure to double check that any fireworks you purchase are approved.
