Community Conversation on Race – Youth and Health Disparities in Placer County
Placer County is proud to host a Community Conversation on Race – Youth and Health Disparities in Placer County – panel discussion, taking place on Wednesday, June 14th in Rocklin. This important dialogue will bring attention to the unfair treatment of Black and Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) youth in the county, who experience higher rates of mental health challenges and substance use due to environmental factors. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their experiences with health disparities, as well as learn how to become more aware of these issues and advocate for positive changes.
Identifying Health Disparities in Placer County
The Resilient Placer Coalition and the Placer Youth Equity Resilience Project (YERP) will share their research and report on health disparities. Through a series of community-centered listening sessions with diverse youth, they have identified the key social determinants and traumatic conditions that contribute to mental health and substance use among marginalized youth in Placer County. Additionally, nonprofits such as the Sierra Native Alliance and the Latino Leadership Council are working with youth to uncover health disparities, and what revelations youth have had about the social determinants of health in their communities. This is an excellent opportunity to gain insight into Placer County youth and the challenges they face!

The Rocklin Cultural Awareness Committee (RCAC) will present an esteemed panel of guests for its monthly series Community Conversations on Race.
Panelists Anno Nakai, Executive Director of Sierra Native Alliance; Twiana Armstrong, Founder of seeMYchild; and Amy Barrios, Youth Coordinator of the Latino Leadership Council will be discussing a wide range of topics relevant to Rocklin, Roseville, and Placer County.
